The Office Returns!

the office on nbc dwight

It feels good to see quality shows return to TV to balance out the massive amount of crappy reality shows they’re putting out now. Don’t get me wrong, I watch the occasional reality show here and there, but they really need to cool it. Does anyone really care about what goes on in the day to day life of some non celebrity like Kim Kardashian? I mean if they’re going to follow people around who make sex tapes, why not choose a real porn star? I’d be curious to see what a real porn star does when she isn’t getting slices of bologna thrown on her while wearing a sheep outfit.

Back to “The Office”, I got a little side-tracked which happens from time to time. If you haven’t seen it yet, the show is mostly set in an office called “Dunder Mifflin” which is a paper company in nowhere PA. The premise of the show is extremely boring which makes it that much better, and semi-realistic. It features a boss who tries really hard to be everyones friend but usually fails pretty horribly at it. Each officer worker has a unique personality which makes the show very interesting and very funny every week as there is always something new happening.

Sorry i’m not the best at describing tv shows as I try not to give too much away, or build up hype and have people let down. It’s definitely worth checking out if you’ve never seen it before, and if you have this is just a reminder that it’s on tonight :)

Strip Clubs In The UK

Author : Luceus - Comments : 1 Comment - April 9th, 2008

strip clubs in the uk

So there is a story out today about a group of women trying to get some strip clubs shut down, and to my surprise it was in the UK and not the United States. Not to say that women in the United States are prudes, there are many who aren’t, but there seems to be groups left and right looking to shut down anything that pretends men and women are not the same gender. In fact i’m having reservations about writing a post talking about it for fear of some lashing :p

Now this story is about the increasing amount of large companies that hold meetings and entertain clients are strip clubs, and the strip clubs that seek to accommodate them. One of the largest strip clubs in the UK opened smack dab in a business district for that reason. A group called “the Fawcett Society” is not only trying to get business meetings shut down, but trying to get stricter licensing laws to help curb the amount of clubs opening up.

This is where i’m torn. On one hand I do see their point that it has to be tough on high level businesswomen who don’t exactly enjoy going to business meetings with naked women around, and they do miss out on social ‘bonding’ if they choose not to go (as none of these meetings are required). That being said though, I find it odd that they’re going after the strip clubs themselves, instead of focusing on the businesses that do this.

Even going after the businesses seems to be a weak attempt at fixing anything, as life in the corporate world will always have these kind of issues regardless of strip clubs. If this group gets anything accomplished, you’re going to see all types of groups popping up trying to fix their issues at work. I’m sure issues similar to this happen in companies everywhere. Female execs probably do things that aren’t very appealing towards male co-workers, and male execs also do things that not all men enjoy, like going to sporting events, bars, etc.

So this situation seems to be one that cannot be resolved without more tightrope walking around corporate offices, but i’m guessing it will not end until we’re all robots who show up, do our jobs, smile like Mr Brady and go home acting like everything is great with their job. Reality is this will just make co-ed work environments already more uncomfortable than they already are.

Two Suicides, One Heart

Author : Luceus - Comments : No Comments - April 7th, 2008

two men commit suicide with same heart

This has to be one of the stranger stories i’ve heard in awhile. Terry Cottle was a 33 year old male from South Carolina who was married to 28ish year old Cheryl Cottle and had four children with her. Terry ended up committing suicide via a gunshot wound in 1995, possibly because he was married and had four children :)

Well, in comes Sonny Graham (pictured above), an old fart with a heart condition. In the same year (1995), his doctors diagnosed him with the condition and put him on the donor list hoping someone like Terry comes into the picture. Well, lady luck must have been smiling upon the old geezer, as just after Terry offed himself, his heart was prime for a transplant and got shoved in Sonny’s chest.

Now, here is where the story gets a bit weird. Thankful for the heart, Sonny decides to contact the Cottle family and ends up sharing letters with Cheryl, the grieving widow. Over a year of communication, Sonny (or better known as mr. viagra) ended up sweeping Cheryl off her feet and she ended up falling for Sonny. Some would say she loved his big heart, but that’s just a cheap joke.

Well, the story ended up taking an even weirder turn. Sonny, apparently unhappy in his life with Cheryl, her four kids, his own two kids, and six grandchildren, he decided to go the route of Terry. He placed a gun to his own neck and pulled the trigger, effectively ending his old life and leaving Cheryl (a former grieving widow of a suicide victim) as, you guessed it, a grieving widow of a suicide victim.

All joking aside, that has to be pretty hard on Cheryl. Maybe she was a nagging crazy wife, or maybe she was the perfect wife, but either way she has to now face the rest of her life as a mid 30’s widow x2, with both of her husbands sharing the same heart, and same fate. She could probably make a reality show of her going on dates just to see the reaction of guys when they hear that story.

Oh, and it’s also reported that Dr. Kevorkian is looking into buying that heart for his patients :)

Craziness Has Hit A New Level

Author : Luceus - Comments : No Comments - April 4th, 2008

crazy fetus snatching ladyWTF! I’m not sure if there is much else to say about this whack job who apparently was so desperate for a child, she strangled a lady, cut her open and stole her FETUS! Judging from her mugshot, it’s no shock she was desperate for a child as no guy with any standards would tap that. I mean look at her, she looks like the type of girl who would have sex with you, tie you up, snap your ankles “Misery” style, then rob you blind and leave you with one carrot in your mouth and one up your butt.

Serious though, does a person get much crazier than trying to steal a baby out of a woman? I thought stealing newborns from hospitals was a little wild, but this is clearly a new level and one I still can’t grasp.

On the bright side, she was sentenced to the gas chamber, but I think before they put her in, they should give her a plastic doll, tell her it’s real and it needs to go in her womb to survive. Then watch what crazy things she comes up to make that happen. You could video tape it, sell copies and give the proceeds to the family she destroyed.

Violence & Sex At Teen Jails

Author : Luceus - Comments : No Comments - April 4th, 2008

violence and sex teen jailIn the not so shocking news of the day, there are reports that there is violence and sex in “Teen Jails” around the country. And not surprisingly, many of those doing the abusing are the people in power.

A guard drove his knee into the neck of a frail suicidal Ohio boy after the youth was wrestled to the ground and held down by other guards who stripped him and covered his face with a smock, a state report said.

Erica was 16 when she was sentenced to Columbia after running away, a probation violation of an earlier marijuana conviction.

She admits she was a girl quick to sass her parents, full of anger about the death of a relative that happened around the same time Katrina wrecked her family’s Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, home.

Nervously touching a sparkly barrette in her red hair, she cries as she describes how guards forced her legs into tight metal shackles. She said she was cuffed and chained when she ate and used the bathroom — and was even forced to play soccer that way against other girls.

Guards called her “Chain Gang,” she said.

“I will always remember them things around my ankles, the way they cut into me,” she said, pulling up her pant leg to show slash-mark scars on her ankles and heels. “They made you feel like you were nothing.”

Now, aside the from funny part of calling her “Chain Gang”, this story is pretty disturbing on a few levels. This seems like some bitchy, snooty teen girl who had some troubles in her life so she had to rebel. She can join the millions of other teens around the country who are doing the same thing for various reasons. What bothers me about the story is that she was thrown in jail for breaking probation on a marijuana conviction.

So here you have a rebellious teen girl who is smoking pot to deal with the fact that her house was destroyed, someone close to her died, and probably other girl things like her bewbies growing and dorky pimple faced guys trying to bone her. She gets busted, probation, and breaks probation and is now sent to freakin jail with the teens who probably punch kittens for hobby. Not only does she have to deal with the punks in jail, but then the people with the authority there are messing with her by chaining her up in shackles and forcing her to play soccer that way.

I’m glad to see the crackdown of these guards, as nobody with authority should abuse it for personal gain, but they’re missing one of the roots of the issue. They’re sending people to these jails for such minor issues like smoking marijuana, and most definitely other stupid issues that should be dealt with by means other than locking them up and scarring these kids for life.

It’s just another case of the system having ridiculous policies and then getting upset when those policies come back to bite you. This girl should have never been in the jail in the first place, and that fact is going to be glossed over like many other root issues surrounding the problems in this country.

Yankees Upset Over 2007; Release Attack Hawk

Author : Luceus - Comments : No Comments - April 3rd, 2008

Yankees Attack Hawk

One of his final moves as owner of the New York Yankees, George Steinbrenner built a nest inside Fenway Park to house hawks that were bred to attack anyone or anything displaying the Red Sox logo. It is reported that Steinbrenner was furious about the 2004 World Series Championship the Red Sox won, so he started breeding the Hawks in the event they won another Championship sometime in the next 86 years.

When the Red Sox won the World Series in 2007, Steinbrenner was forced to put his plan into action by planting the nests over the winter and hoped they would attack the first Red Sox player they saw, namely Manny Ramirez or David Oritz. Sadly, he forgot to plan on Fenway Park tours which resulted in the first of probably many hawk attacks to happen this summer at Fenway Park.

A red-tailed hawk attacked a girl on a tour of Fenway Park Thursday, drawing blood and sending the girl to a hospital for treatment.

The middle school student was touring Fenway with a group from the Memorial Boulevard Middle School in Bristol, Conn., when she came within 40 feet of a nest the hawk had built on an overhang near the press box.

In other related news, it has been reported that George Steinbrenner has purchased ‘The Boston Channel’ which could explain the obvious cover-up in the reported story claiming the hawk was the one who built the nest.

My Name Is Earl Returns Tonight!

My Name Is Earl Returns

One of the better comedies on TV is returning tonight after a layoff that lasted way too long due to the writers strike. It’s always good to see more scripted shows return to the air and do well opposed to the massive amounts of reality tv we have flooding the airways recently.

The show reminds me a lot of another quality show, King Of The Hill. Both shows have a quality writing staff that produces well thought out shows on a weekly basis, with the lead character of the show being a good hearted guy who is just trying to do the right thing. Neither shows are full of laughs from start to finish, but both usually feature some really funny parts through each show, and if not they’re always just good shows to watch.

Ok, enough of me being lame over a show. There are few quality shows on TV lately, so I just had to point out one of them. I’m sure you’ll see something similar when ‘The Office’ returns, which I believe is next week.

Note To Moms: Babies Can’t Swim

Author : Luceus - Comments : No Comments - April 2nd, 2008

babies can’t swim

In yet another bizarre story, police in Texas have arrested a 14 year old girl for allegedly flushing her newborn baby down a toilet after giving birth to it in school!

A 14-year-old gave birth to a near full-term baby in a bathroom at a junior high school and tried to flush it down the toilet, police told KPRC Local 2.

The case is being treated as a homicide, detectives said. Police have not said if the baby was a boy or a girl.

This is the second Houston-area 14-year-old to secretly deliver a baby this week.

So i’m guessing this whole birthing process wasn’t really well thought out by the girl. How was she supposed to explain her going to the bathroom and coming back a few hours later with her stomach no longer looking like she’s stealing a basketball? Or was did she plan on saying she didn’t realize she gave birth, she just thought she took a really messy turd and tried to flush it a bunch of times. I’m not sure that would have gone over too well to see a plunger sticking out a newborns ass.

And if you missed the little blurb at the end, this is the 2nd time this week in the same area that a 14 year old girl tried to secretly give birth to a baby! What is going on down in Houston with 14 year old girls? And who are the guys getting these young girls knocked up?

What is this world coming to?

Beyonce And Jay-Z To Wed - Yipee!

beyonze and jayz to wed

In the Who Cares? news of the day, the media found it very interesting to post this story about an annoying celebrity couples plans to wed soon. Yes, all they did was pick up a freakin marriage certificate and it’s all over the news like Britney Spears doing another crazy thing.

Speaking of the crazy Spears, seeing as she seems a little less crazy lately, and a little more ‘pantied’, the media has to chomp down on other pointless stories. Maybe tomorrow we’ll have a story about what Jessica Simpson is up to. We haven’t heard much from that talentless hack recently.

What Is Wrong With Kids Today?

Author : Luceus - Comments : No Comments - April 2nd, 2008

wild kids plan to attack teacher

In a day of weird news featuring kids doing crazy things in school, now we have a group of 3rd graders plotting to attack their teacher. And this isn’t some simple attack, these kids were going mafia style on the teacher with certain kids doing certain roles including one doing ‘clean up’.

The children, ages 8 and 9, were apparently mad at the teacher because she had scolded one of them for standing on a chair, Tanner said. A prosecutor said they are too young to be charged with a crime under Georgia law.

The scheme involved a division of roles, Tanner said. One child’s job was to cover windows so no one could see outside, he said. Another was supposed to clean up after the attack.

As crazy as this story is, I have to say i’m impressed that a group of these young kids could get together and plan something more elaborate than how they’re going to steal ice cream from the corner store. I guess it shows that the country will go to bright young kids… kids who happen to plan brutal attacks for getting scolded. Wait, maybe smart kids running the country isn’t a good thing, which possibly explains how Bush got re-elected.
