High Gas Prices Around the United StatesIn a rare show of spine, the United States Congress railed into the absurdly high gas prices plaguing the United States over the past few years. “Americans are hoping that the top executives from the five largest oil companies will tell us that these soaring gas prices are just part of some elaborate hoax,” said Ed Markey, D-Mass, chairman of the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming. “Unfortunately, it’s not a joke.”

No, sadly it is no joke, no April’s Fools prank, or any other scheme. These gas prices are real and they’re hurting the country and it’s time someone with some sort of power said or did something about it. It’s very doubtful anything said by congress will have any impact, but it’s good to see them playing politics for once.

One of the reasons gas prices are so high is because they trade high on Wall Street, and not to defend the greedy bastards in big oil, but they can’t help it if investors are causing the prices to skyrocket due to all the fears caused by the war in the Middle East.

I’m no expert on the subject, but I have a feeling we’re going to continue to feel the pinch of high gas prices until either the Middle East suddenly becomes a calm and semi-peaceful place, or we drastically cut our dependency on oil, which would ease fears on Wall Street. I see none of those options coming true any time soon, so until then it’s time to invest in cars with high mileage and hope the pinch doesn’t bite you too bad.
